Whenever I ask my students this question, I almost always get a blank stare (….huh?). No, I’m not asking about your work deadlines, or a 4ft downhill left to right putt. I’m asking about your “grip” pressure. How tightly are you holding the grip of the club with your hands? There, that should clear it up. |

I recently played a casual round of golf with a man who had apparently decided that his own personal enjoyment of the game was paramount and that the rules just simply didn’t apply to him. He violated dozens of rules, many times, just to make it easier for him to play the game. I softly made mention of this and was greeted with, “What difference does it make to you. I’m not affecting your game.” |

Don't get bit by the "Gimme" |

The “gimme”. Is this even a word? Every golfer in the world knows what this word is…except Webster (who apparently didn’t play the game). When you give the “gimme”, you are telling someone that you believe their skill level is such that you are confident that they will make the shot they are faced with, so you give it too them, the “gimme”. |

Like many golf professionals, I got into this business to teach golf and play golf. Fortunately for me, the facility I work at encourages their staff to play as much golf as possible. This affords me the opportunity to experience many different playing styles and skill levels. What I’ve learned is that there are two different types of management, game management and course management. |
